Born on May 8, 1934, in Ranchi, Shyamal Dutta Roy was one of the famous artists in India and is remembered for his significant contribution to the evolution water colour in India. He was one of the founder members of Contemporary Artists Group and an external examinar of Government Art College of Calcutta. His works have been collected by many national and international galleries and exibited at U.S.A., Poland ,

"Biswajit Nayak had shown a deep interest towards painting from a very young age. He had been a student at a city school where I was the art teacher. A group of young boys of the school had developed a particular interest towards drawing and painting. I used to conduct a class for them every saturday of the week. I used to select boys from class V to class XI. while still in his early years, Biswajit had been a regular student of my classes. Besides being keen towards painting, these students were equally good in other subjects too.

For many years I had lost touch with this favourite student of mine. I saw his works after a gap of years. Even though he has now become a computer engineer, he has been painting regularly within his busy schedule. I have been deeply moved by seeing his recent works. The choice of colour, composition and the theme of these paintings resembles those of any matured artist. The wonderful creations that he has done though the help of computers tugs at the heart. The ones that he has done directly on canvas or on paper show his materyover drawing and painting."
