If beauty can be described as combination of qualities that delights and evocates the sight, senses and mind then the artist is a person who is the master that creates beauty. He is the alchemist turning something base into precious; ordinary into extra-ordinary. An artist with a brush in hand is like King Arthur with his Excalibur brandishing and wielding immense power. Biswajit Nayak is a personality who embodies what artistry is all about. Biswajit ("biswa" meaning world & "jeet" meaning conqueror), to justify his name, now has innumerable accolades and glorified commendations showering in from all corners of the world; overflowing beyond the boundaries of the Asian, European & even the American continent. The nascent aesthetic curiosity and the compelling urge to paint blossomed into fruition with the tender nurturing of his mother in his formative stage of life and later by his wife. Each artistic cell of Biswajit's being can be traced to the creative genes that he inherited from his mother whose skills though not honed up by any professional guidance was an artist in her own right. She created drawings and small works of art with style and finesse. The very vivacious and dynamic Kaveri providing all the vital inspiration for the burning passion finding expression in such beautiful works of art, is the perfect foil for the artist. She is the driving force and supportive strength behind his success. In fact the artist sincerely attributes the undeniable contribution of the two women in his life - the mother, for encouraging his artistic endeavour as a child and the wife for her loving and enthusiastic appreciation in every step of the way in his exhilarating journey towards creative ingenuity. The mentor, Shyamal Dutta Roy, an artist of fame and repute of India, was the man guiding and being instrumental for providing the ignition to the beautiful explosion of creativity. The young boy by his stubborn determination managed to woo the teacher and became one of his favourite disciple. Even though the great artist is no more in the world, but Biswajit pays rich tribute to him and as always being the fundamental influence behind all his creative exploits. Being an electrical engineer by profession from Jadavpur University, a reputed institution of India; Biswajit represents a very interesting and rare combination of artistry blended with modern technology. His work is thus a captivating and breathtaking harmony of reality laced with illusion. Breaking the stereotype image of an artist with the brush and canvas Biswajit with his unique background has made bold forays into the world of technology to create works of art with the mouse and software. He attended many art schools and model study groups to learn different styles and techniques. But Biswajit's restless artistic soul exonerated itself from the fetters of any structured system and aspired to soar to the pinnacle of boundless creativity. Art to him is not only landscapes and usual imageries but something that evolves out of the simple enduring elements of everyday life. The emotions expressed on the canvas are sometimes so intense and tangible that the strokes come out as speech. Biswajit's art reflects his joyous obsession, sensual torment, exciting adventure & cauldron of emotions. To Biswajit art is the fervent rendering of the soul and exudes the very essence of life. Biswajit absolutely believes in what the great philosopher Aristotle had once said "the aim of art is to represent, not the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance"……. Sharmila
